Worship is at the heart of the First Church experience. We strive to provide ways in which persons of all ages can become engaged in meaningful and joyful worship. To that end, we have two different worship services, each with its own characteristics.
Our Early Service (8 a.m.)
Our early service is informal and is held in a more intimate setting with seating in the round. The service is participatory, and the atmosphere is relaxed. We sing a variety of music, accompanied by keyboard. Communion is celebrated each week. The service is held in the Chapel on the Main Level.
Our Late Service (10:30 a.m.)
Our late service is traditional and formal. We sing a variety of music; musical selections are provided by choirs of all ages, handbells, or instruments, with the organ playing a central part in the service. The liturgy, while structurally similar to that of our early service, accentuates the more formal nature of the late service. Communion is celebrated at least monthly; baptism is scheduled four times a year.
Come join us in a joyful celebration as we join together in worship!
Nursery care is provided at the second service only.
Sacrament of Baptism
The ancient Church celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism only once per year: on the eve of Easter, that is, during the Great Vigil of Easter. At First Church, we normally schedule baptisms on four days per year, each of them with special significance for that sacrament. These are:
Baptism of the Lord
Resurrection of the Lord
The Day of Pentecost
All Saints
Parents who desire their children to be baptized should contact the church office to register for the baptismal class.
