The congregation at First Presbyterian Church will honor its long-time administrative assistant, Jane Manser, at a luncheon following the 10:30 worship service Sunday, July 11, 2010. After 23 years, Jane is leaving Macomb to make her home in Tampa, FL. Jane moved to Macomb in 1975 from Minneapolis. Her first job here was in the x-ray department at McDonough District Hospital. But soon her first baby would be born, and she was told that it wasn’t good for her to be around x-ray machines. She then became a “stay-at-home” Mom until the youngest of her three children, Susie, started to kindergarten. Susie’s brothers, Neil and Greg, were older and already attending school. It was then she started her job at First Pres working part-time as secretary in the office. She also sang in the choir.
It wasn’t long until the part-time job became full time and, it goes without saying, she has since become the glue that has held the office together. Her job description was changed a few years back to Administrative Assistant.
She and her husband, Rick, will be packing the truck and heading south July 21st. Her decision to make the move came following the recent death of her mother. Her father is now making his home with her and her husband. They have secured an apartment in Tampa for the present, and are in the process of looking for an apartment for her father.
Her many years at First Pres, she says, have been wonderful. She has liked all the ministers and staff because they have been very supportive and loving. As for the congregation, she adds that at any time she has needed help, all she has had to do is go to the Rolodex and choose a card and help was on its way.
In recalling the pastors that have served during her tenure, she said all were different, but each one added something positive to her life.
